In addition to being one of the PlayStation 4's more impressive exclusives to release so far, inFamous: Second Son is helping to push sales of Sony's console through the roof. According to InsiderP, the PlayStation 4 has managed to hit 7 million in global sales during the week of Second Son's March launch.
"Courtesy of a monstrous shipment of PS4 units in the extended last 2 weeks amidst very high consumer demand, PS4 reached 7 million units globally for the extended Infamous Week ending March 28, 2014. For the extended week, PS4 outsold the Xbox One by a whopping 7:1 across the PAL region."
Console sales were no doubt helped along by the game's release. inFamous: Second Son launched globally on March 21, as of March 28, sold one million copies, with 400,000 retail copies in PAL, 50,000 in Asia, another 90,000 in the UK, and 150,000 digital downloads for the game.
During the game's launch weekend, 180,000 of the consoles were sold in PAL territories compared to 25,000 for the Xbox One. Another 100,000 sales came from North America.
According to the outlet, the PS4 "now has a solid 3 million lead over Xbox One globally."
Under the hood, the PlayStation 4 boasts Supercharged PC architecture, X86 CPU, Enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB Unified Memory according to the official specs.
It supports the same PlayStation Plus service as the Vita and PlayStation 3. However, a Plus subscription is required for online multiplayer games, but not for additional media services like Netflix. Sony has also updated the Dual Shock controllers with a touch screen and improved shoulder triggers, and bundles the console with a headset.
In the opposite corner, Microsoft's Xbox One claims an 8-core x86 processor and Microsoft hopes it will take the place of the family room cable box by letting you watch Blu-ray movies and TV through the console, in a "seamless transition" that lets players switch from playing games to watching shows and/or movies. It will come fully loaded with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.
The console's exclusives include Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Ryse: Son of Rome, and more recently, Titanfall. You can check out a list of the install sizes for all of the launch games here.
