Square Enix seem to have unofficially dropped the name of the next entry in the Deus Ex series. The publisher filed a patent on Thursday for the name Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, though no official announcement of a game or property using this title has followed.
The patent was first seen by a NeoGaf user who noticed that Square Enix Ltd filed a trademark application for the name Deus Ex: Mankind Divided in the UK. You can assume that this will be the name of the next game in the series, or perhaps in spinoff title. But it is hardly an official confirmation of a game, so right now it remains just that--an assumption.
That said, it's a pretty safe one. The patent was filed with the "Office on Harmonization in the Internal Market" (an EU equivalent of the US Trademark and Patent Office) under the categories computer game software and printed entertainment services. Square Enix gave no description to go along with the file.
The title is likely to fit into the Deus Ex Universe, a series of interconnected games across multiple platforms within the Deus Ex world, announced by developer Eidos Montreal in October. This effort is not limited to gaming consoles and will included content on books, graphic novels, phone and tablets as well.
Perhaps the game will be the first Deus Ex title for the new consoles, and we may hear more about it at E3 this year. The most recent title in the franchise was Deus Ex: The Fall for PC, a port of the mobile game of the same name.
