Chris Evans to Retire After Captain America Deal Is Up

Captain America No More? Chris Evans Wants to Retire After Marvel Deal

We're still just over a week away from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but Chris Evans gave his fans a bit of a shield-to-the-face in an interview with Variety yesterday, stating that he would be leaving acting behind after his six-movie Marvel deal is up.

Evans, who has appeared as Cap in three Marvel movies to date, wants to hang up the blue tights and become a full-time director once he's done with his Marvel agreement.

"Evans recently made news when he said he plans a short break from acting after his Marvel run ends, but now, he tells Variety, he wants to retire from being in front of the camera," the article states. "'If I'm acting at all, it's going to be under Marvel contract, or I'm going to be directing,' he says. 'I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I'm contractually obligated to do.'"

Evans made his directorial debut with the film 1:30 Train, which he shot over this past winter.

"The 32-year-old actor spent his winter hiatus from the Marvel universe directing his debut feature, an intimate $3 million love story tentatively called '1:30 Train,' which focuses on a young woman (Alice Eve) who misses her ride home at Grand Central Terminal and spends the night talking to a street musician (played by Evans)," Variety said. "He shot the film on Manhattan's Lower East side over the course of just 19 days, and recently finished editing a rough cut."

Considering that Evans was one of the co-stars of the film, maybe all hope isn't lost that he will continue in front of the camera after his Marvel contract. As a matter of fact, he didn't even fully rule it out.

"For all I know, in five years, I might say, 'Shit, I miss acting,'" Evans said. "Right now, I just want to get behind the camera and make movies."

No matter what his eventual acting fate is, at least we'll get to see Evans suit up as Captain America next week when Winter Soldier drops on April 4.
