NBA Trade Rumors: Deron Williams To Cleveland In Exchange For Three Players

The Holiday season is here and so does the trading season in the NBA.  We've been hearing a lot of trade rumors lately.  From DeMarcus Cousins (which we've been hearing about since last year and will probably continue to do so until he finally gets traded), to Nerlens Noel, to Paul George and to Carmelo Anthony.  And now the latest to hit the trade rumor mill is Dallas Mavericks veteran point guard Deron Williams.

According to sources, Deron Williams is headed out of the Dallas Mavericks and is going to the defending NBA champions Cleveland Cavaliers.  The rumored deal involves three players from the Cleveland Cavaliers.  The three players are shooting guard/small forward Mike Dunleavy, shooting guard Jordan McRae and Mo Williams' expiring contract.

It's no secret that the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking for a backup point guard to lessen the load on All Star guard Kyrie Irving.  Ever since the Cleveland Cavaliers traded away crowd favorite Matthew Dellavedova to the Milwaukee Bucks in the off season they are left with only one true point guard to back up Kyrie Irving, rookie Kay Felder.

While Kay Felder can play, the fact is he's still a rookie and the Cleveland Cavaliers feel like the rookie is not yet ready for the big games especially in the playoffs. That's why the Cleveland Cavaliers are desperate for a veteran point guard.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have 11-2 record and are currently number one in the Eastern Conference.  Adding a veteran point guard in three time All Star Deron Williams would only make the Cleveland Cavaliers more formidable.

While the Cleveland Cavaliers are headed towards up the NBA standings, the Dallas Mavericks meanwhile are headed toward the opposite direction.  With a 2-12 record, the Dallas Mavericks are dead last in the Western Conference.

It's been a very rough season so far for the Dallas Mavericks.  With their recent loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks have lost 7 in a row.  That's the longest losing streak since Mark Cuban bought the team.  That streak seems nowhere near the end.  The Dallas Mavericks next opponent? The Cleveland Cavaliers.  Looks like number 8 is just around the corner.

As much as the Cleveland Cavaliers wanted a back up point guard, it looks like the defending champs are not willing to make a move.  The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly over the salary cap and they couldn't afford Deron Williams current salary.  Deron Williams just signed a one year, $10 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
