'The Punisher' Release Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle Appears In ‘The Defenders?’ More Actors Confirmed To Join Series

Marvel revealed an outstanding line-up of characters for the upcoming "The Punisher" TV Series. The first Frank Castle solo debut will start airing in Netflix in 2017.

January this year, there were already speculations of "The Punisher" spinoff even before Daredevil aired on Netflix. Although Marvel dismissed these rumors, a confirmation came in around April 2016 that the solo spinoff will air after Frank Castle debuted in the season two airing of "Daredevil."

In the latter's plot, Frank was an 'unhinged vigilante' avenging the death of his wife and daughter by mercilessly killing neighborhood criminals at Hell's Kitchen. This led him into conflict with Daredevil. Apparently, the fearless man's civilian identity, Matt Murdock, (which is a lawyer, by the way) is up to defend Castle at court. Despite all efforts, The Punisher was penalized with life imprisonment. He fortunately escaped from prison and went on looking to execute the mastermind behind his family's tragic death. Later on, he teamed up with Daredevil to defend the town.

Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as "The Punisher" together with the initially revealed cast. Crossing over to the upcoming Marvel TV series is Daredevil's Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll, the lawyer who worked with Castle on his case. Joining the line-up is "Westworld's" Ben Barnes as Billy Russo- Castle's best friend during his Special Forces days, who will later turn into the protagonist's archenemy, Jigsaw.

Fans will also see Ebon Moss-Bachrach playing Micro, and Jason Moore as Curtis Hoyle -- both will be Castle's friends in Netflix's "The Punisher." On the Homeland Security agents team are Amber Rose Revah and Michael Nathanson, while Paul Schulze becomes the CIA agent who met Castle once in Afghanistan.

"Hannibal" writer/producer Steve Lightfoot will be the scriptwriter for the first two episodes of this Marvel-Netflix collaboration. Although there were earlier statements that "The Punisher" will be out by 2018, recent announcements revealed that the anticipated Marvel series will be launched late 2017. Filming already began on October 2016 in Brooklyn, New York. Meanwhile, we might catch Frank Castle in another Netflix series, "The Defenders" airing on July 2016. Stay tuned!
