‘American Horror Story’ Season 6 Episode 5 Spoilers: Have Matt & Shelby Been Lying the Whole Time? Roanoke Storyline Set To End

Fans of "American Horror Story" Season 6 have revealed that they smell something fishy going on in the show lately. This could be the case for Matt (Andre Holland) and Shelby (Lily Rabe) who, after all that they have gone through, might just be lying to all viewers of the show.

TV Guide reports that "American Horror Story" Chapter 5 had wrapped up Matt and Shelby's recount of their own horror story when they escaped The Butcher and sought refuge at a cheap motel. While the emotional conclusion of their ordeal clearly intended to paint them as innocent victims, their story does not corroborate well enough, more particularly their escape from the Butcher.

The report says that it is quite fishy to believe that after centuries of following orders, Ambrose (Wes Bentley) chose that moment to turn against his mother. The fact that Lee (Angela Bassett) arrived just in time to run Piggy Man over on "American Horror Story" and give the perfect getaway car also raised some eyebrows. It is also quite questionable that Shelby's sister has been wiring them money instead of buying flights herself since almost nobody wires money anymore during these days since that can be instantly done online.

There just appears to be too many inconsistencies in Matt and Shelby's story that what appears cannot just be coincidences. From the start of the "American Horror Story," a very visible theme surrounding the sixth season has been the idea of a narrator that cannot be counted on. After a strange silence, misleading trailers before its premiere, Ryan Murphy announced that "the thing you think you're watching is not what you're watching" and added that there will be a big twist in the sixth episode.

Bustle reports that while it is not yet known what Murphy's cryptic announcement points out to, it reveals a theory: that the real killers could be Matt and Shelby themselves. "American Horror Story" Season 6's format and context clues could not just be for fun as there has to be a reason behind why event unfolded they way they did. While the big twist has not yet been revealed, it is for viewers to see for themselves if, indeed, Matt and Shelby have lied the whole time about their story to cover up something larger than what appears.
