Black Friday Weekend: 750,000 Xbox 360 Sold

More than 750,000 Xbox 360 gaming consoles were sold over the Black Friday weekend, the company said.

The Xbox 360 is over seven years old and still "managed to sell more than 960,000 consoles in the US during the week of Black Friday last year, with 800,000 sold within a period of 24 hours," The Verge reported.

Microsoft faces competition from Nintendo's Wii U. Nintendo Wii U was released Nov. 18. Wii U sold 400,000 in its launch weeks while Wii made a sale of 300,000.

The sudden rise in sale of Xbox 360 is largely due to the release of Halo 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

The Verge predicts that Xbox 360 might lead the race as top performer in November.

Microsoft has maintained its good sale by keeping its console fresh with software updates and Kinect hardware addition.

Subscription to Xbox Live increased 50 percent when compared to last year's Black Friday week.

"We saw incredible activity on Xbox over the weekend. For example, on Sunday alone we had more than 14 million people on Xbox LIVE across the world, racking up more than 72 million hours of use in just one day."

"Compared to 2011, we've seen a 43 percent increase in U.S. entertainment application hours logged on Xbox LIVE during the week of Black Friday," said Microsoft, Examiner reported.

Microsoft is active with Xbox set-top box, Surface tablet, and a wrist-worn fitness device. It faces fierce competition from Sony, Apple, Google and Nintendo's Wii.
