Nintendo's Wii U, Microsoft's XBox 720, But What Does Sony and the PlayStation 4 Have in Store for Us?

Nintendo's upcoming Wii U, Microsoft's XBox 720, but what of Sony and it's Playstation 4, can we expect to hear anything about it? Apparently not. Or at least not at the moment.

PlayStation CEO Andrew House says that it plans to keep new hardware under wraps until it can demonstrate a "major" advancement over the PS3, which would explain its absence at E3.

"The right time to talk about new advances in hardware is when you can demonstrate a significant leap on the current experience, and something that is going to be attractive," said House. "That remains our philosophy. Beyond that we have nothing to say at this point."

All we know about the PS4 at this point is that it's been in development since May of 2011. Sony chief financial officer Masaru Kato said, "The PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform--when we'll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that--but our development work is already under way."

Rumors concerning Sony's PS4 include that it will have the same graphics card as Microsoft's next Xbox, as well as measures to block out used games, but that's a whole other can of worms.

As soon as Sony reveals anything about their next-gen surpirse, we'll let you know.
