As of last season, Game of Thrones has stopped being a 1:1 season/book analogy of its source material A Song Of Ice And Fire. But for the upcoming fifth season, we're about to hit a snag on which chapters we're going to see on screen, and the two (four, really) characters that will be excluded.
Agents Of SHIELD Season 2 Trailer Promises Black Ops Action
Kristian Nairn, Hodor actor and DJ currently on world tour with a set called Rave of Thrones (seriously), has told an Australian TV show that he and Isaac Hempstead-Wright (who plays paraplegic Winterfell heir Bran Stark) will not be on the next season of the show: "We're not actually in Season Five, by the way. We have a season off. We have a year's hiatus. [...] Solely because, I imagine, our storyline is up to the end of the books. ... So I get a year off now to do Rave of Thrones and gallivant all over the world."
The main plot of season four coincided (mostly) with the second half of the third book of the series, A Storm Of Swords, the second longest book in the series. Now, book four and five actually mostly played out parallel to each other, but following different characters. It was only around the second half of book five that it caught up with the end of book four and all characters were on the same page again (no pun intended).
Batman And Breaking Bad Spin-Offs Coming To Netflix
The TV show Bran and Hodor, however, have already gotten to almost the end of their book five story, while most of the rest of the cast is only at the end of their book three story. A lot of fans were speculating that for these particular characters, the show might actually get ahead of the books or even deviate from the plot. Not unthinkable since HERE'S WHERE THE SPOILERS COME IN they killed off Jojen Reed, the mystic boy who accompanied Bran on his journey north. This is a character who, as of book five, is still alive!
What do you think of sitting out Bran and Hodor's story for a year, while showrunners Benioff and Weiss still had us follow Theon Greyjoy's torture for an entire season?
