Mythology has proved to be a great source of inspiration for countless movies, TV series, and more. Video games are no exception to that and today's #SteamSpotlight feature is the perfect example.
If you happen to be a fan of Norse mythology, in particular, or you are just very curious about it, keep reading because today's featured game draws heavy inspiration from it.
#SteamSpotlight Feature: Northgard
Norse mythology takes centerstage in Northgard, a strategy game developed by Shiro Games and published by Shiro Unlimited. Released in March 2018, this game lets you control a clan of Vikings fighting to take control of a mysterious new continent.
That is, however, easier said than done as you will also have to deal with Wolves and Undead Warriors, according to the game's Steam page.
As the one controlling your Viking clan, you get to assign your vikings to do different jobs, which include Farmer, Sailor, and Warrior, among others. You also get to manage your clan's resources as you will have to ensure everyone's survival during the harsh winter.
If you enjoy playing games with your friends, it is an option you can choose when you play Northgard. If you prefer to play with an AI instead, that is also no problem.

Northgard's Story Mode
The game features as story mode known as Rig's Saga. According to the official website of Northgard, the story revolves around Rig, the son and heir of the murdered Viking High King. A man named Hagen has stolen his father's Regal Horn and now Rig has to journey through Northgard to discover why his father was murdered and an even greater threat compared to Hagen.
"In order to complete the 11 campaign chapters, the player will have to master the specificities of the six first clans and tame the unforgiving wilderness of Northgard," the official website says.
Wondering what those six clans are? These are the clans you will encounter in Northgard:
- Bjarki or the Clan of the Bear
- Eikthyrnir or the Clan of the Stag
- Fenrir or the Clan of the Wolf
- Heidrun or the Clan of the Goat
- Huginn & Muninn or the Clan of the Raven
- Slidrugtanni or the Clan of the Boar
There are also the so-called additional clans that you wil find in the game. These include the following:
- Brundr & Kaelinn or Clan of the Lynx
- Dodsvagr or Clan of the Rat
- Himminbrjotir or Clan of the Fox
- Lyngbakr or the Clan of the Kraken
- Nidhogg or the Clan of the Dragon
