Titanfall News: Staffer Talks DLC, EA Provides Solutions for Various Problems, and Scoring Shenanigans Plague Metacritic and Amazon

Titanfall to Explore Alien Life in Future DLC? Removal of Legitimate Reviews Draws Ire of Writers

Titanfall is now among us, but not everyone's experience is problem free. A number of issues are being reported concerning installation, connection errors, and others. To keep things going smoothly, EA has provided a list of solutions and temporary workarounds for some of the more well-known issues. If you've had a problem, scroll through the list below and peep the suggested solution:

* Titanfall cannot be installed on 32-bit systems - Players running on a 32-bit version of Windows will be unable to install and play Titanfall on their PC. [[When installing Titanfall from a physical disc on to a 32-bit system, you'll encounter the below error, reading, "Error: A redistributable package (audio_installer.exe) was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue." If you're encountering this error, you can confirm whether you system is 32-bit or 64-bit by clicking the Start button, then right-clicking Computer and selecting Properties. You'll find this information listed as "System type."

* Troubleshooting installation fails at 20% and 31% - If your installation of Titanfall fails at 20%, there is likely an issue or difficulty with your installation of Direct X. You can troubleshoot your Direct X installation by trying to reinstall Direct X, or if issues persist, by contacting Microsoft support directly.

If your installation of Titanfall fails at 31%, this is usually due to a problem encountered while downloading Titanfall's audio file. You can troubleshoot your Titanfall installation by opening your Origin client, heading to the My Games tab, right-clicking the Titanfall game tile, and selecting Repair.

* Hard-drive related installation issues - Some players are reporting installation issues with Titanfall when using a hard drive formatted FAT32. Due to file-size restrictions inherent to FAT32 systems, some of the larger files within the Titanfall installation are unable to be managed by these hard drives. To successfully install Titanfall, make sure your hard drive is formatted NTFS. You can find instructions on how to convert a hard drive partition to NTFS straight from Microsoft.

* Connection errors and infinite loop when trying to connect on slower internet connections - Exceedingly slow internet connections may cause an error message when trying to join a server or play your game. Some players may even get stuck in an infinite loop when trying to connect. Try resetting your router or modem by unplugging it from its power source for at least fifteen seconds and then plugging it back in the game.

* Crashing when accepting an invitation to a match in progress while currently in a match -
If you’re in the middle of a match and accept a friend’s invitation to join their match also currently in progress, your game will crash when accepting your friend’s invitation. To solve this issue, make sure before you either inviting a friend or accepting an invitation to exit to the game lobby first. We are aware of this issue and are working hard to resolve it as quickly as possible.

* Players having issues receiving "Militia Pilot" achievement - To increase your ability to receive the "Militia Pilot" achievement, try joining a match using the Play option, rather than Quickplay.

* Kinect cannot be used for voice-comms, and Voice and microphone functionality on PC -
Xbox One and Xbox 360 players cannot use Kinect for Voice over IP, or voice-communication, in-game. Similarly, PC players with a microphone-containing-webcam set as your default microphone will have your microphone turned on automatically when playing Titanfall. If you do not wish to have your microphone on during gameplay, simply disable it in your game settings or disable it as your default microphone in your computer settings.

* Some Intel processors must install specific beta graphics drivers - PC players with specific Intel processors, specifically those with Intel Graphics, must download and install a special beta graphics driver to ensure their game runs properly. You can find this driver, along with a full list of what Intel processors the driver is compatible with, straight from Intel -- Note, these drivers are intended for Intel HD desktop players only. Some laptop players have reported issues with these drivers.

While the game's only been out for less than a week, already people are wondering what plans are to expand the universe via DLC. New maps, new titans, weapons, are all the sort of meat and potatoes additions expected. After all, the giant mechanical suits are the game's namesake, but what about something a bit more...unforseen?

In a few of the game's maps like Boneyard and Airbase, hulking creatures several stories tall stalk the land. IGN posed the theory that maybe future content could involve and/or explore these beasts and other alien life in some way. When asked about the possibility, Respawn's Community Manager Abbie Heppe responded, "We are going to have maps added, and we're trying to give players as much of a varied look at things as we can so that is definitely a possibility."

As far as new Titans go, "That's a real big question," said Heppe. "In order to [add a Titan] it takes so much balancing to make all the Titan abilities work with each other, and then against pilots."

Heppe continued: "It's a huge undertaking. Originally we just had the Atlas titans and then the team refused to add in the rest of the Titans until we were all sure that that one fitted perfectly with everything else in the game, so... I'm not announcing any new Titans right now!"

The only concrete information we have on any Titanfall DLC is that at least three major pieces are scheduled, and free content will be doled out between reach release.

More interestingly, it seems that the fanboys are keeping the war between shooter franchises alive and well. With developer Respawn born of two former CoD staffers, the arguments about Titanfall being a clone of Activision's infamous shooter series were there since the game's announcement. But repugnant fans are no longer content to scream their opinions the messageboard and forum soapbox.

Highly negative reviews for Titanfall have appeared on several sites. Of course, not everyone will like the game, but given the high fluctuation between the game's anticipation, and mostly positive reviews from critics, something was clearly fishy. Take a peek at Metacritic, where the game's metascore from critics sits at 86, while the user score is significantly lower at 6.2. Peeking inside, an astounding 476 negative reviews have clearly pulled the game down.

Right or wrong, the EA hate train is a crowded bandwagon these days, and a look through the "reviews" clearly show it's not opposed to taking on more passengers, most of whom are content to gripe about features of the game that have been known since long before its release, or label it as a "CoD clone."

Amazon has found itself with the same problem, but they've gone so far as to remove several reviews, both good and bad.

NeoGAFfer Nilaul managed to catch a few screencaps of Amazon in action, and shared them with the whole wide world. Seen below, you'll notice that the total reviews (and in all categories, or, "stars") drop from 169, to 148, and then to 113.

As a result, many are accusing EA and/or Microsoft (seems to vary at any given time based on which company is more popular to hate at the moment) of conspiracy, alleging the companies are urging Amazon to remove any bad press. I'm not saying it's accurate, but it's important to remember that Microsoft has tried some shenangians in the past with trying to get favorable press for the Xbox One and its library.

Of course, if true, this begs the questions as to why positive reviews are being taken down as well. We've contacted Amazon on the matter, and we'll let you know what we hear back.
