'The Last Guardian' Gets Price Adjustment

Players who were fans of "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus" patiently waited for "The Last Guardian" until its eventual release late last year. Unfortunately, due to its series of delays, the game did not garner that much interest from gamers as the publishers expected. The game reportedly received a ton of great reviews, but its late release seems to have affected its sales.

There have been reports that Sony has supposedly started making adjustments to hopefully influence consumers to pick up the game. Sources pointed out that some retailers have apparently slashed the price of the game from $60 to $40. It might appear like one of those limited time discounts, but reports claim it was confirmed to be a permanent price adjustment, says Game Rant.

The price cut was reportedly confirmed by a representative from Sony, says Polygon. It seems a bit early for the publisher to slash the price when "The Last Guardian" was just recently added to shelves last year. It has been reported that the game was not as aggressively promoted like other flagship titles, but the publisher was possibly banking on word of mouth instead. It was also released after Thanksgiving, which means it was not included in any Black Friday deals.

Some players are wondering why the game was quickly swept under the radar. Some gamers speculate it's the title's somewhat short 12-hour single-player campaign, which reportedly lacked any kind of feature to encourage players to replay the game. The price drop might also encourage players to pick up the game due to its favorable reviews.

Fans are hoping Sony continues to deliver new games despite the less than favorable performance of "The Last Guardian" in sales. The game is an action adventure game where players must guide their large companion through a series of puzzles. It was released for the PlayStation 4 last December.
