Mass Effect Trilogy PS4 and Xbox One Remastered Edition? Bioware is Considering It

Bioware Considers PS4 and Xbox One Mass Effect Remastering

High definition re-releases, anniversary, and ultimate editions have increasingly spotted the gaming landscape over the last few years, as some past favorites and classics have been remade on modern hardware.

This has included some old titles from many generations ago, but we've also seen games from the PlayStation 2, Xbox and Gamecube era remade: simply upgrading to HD, which wasn't available at the time the games were released, was often worth the price of admission.

Now Mass Effect is being considered for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though it's far from currently being developed.

A fan on Twitter asked Bioware boss Aaryn Flynn on Twitter about the possibility of a 1080p, 60fps, upgraded texture version of the Mass Effect franchise on Xbox One and PS4. They are, apparently, thinking about it. Flynn responded by saying, "We have discussed that internally. If we can put solid plans together we'll share."

As I said, it's not exactly in the middle of development, but that is a positive sign for fans of the series who want another excuse to play through it again, and in higher fidelity. Bioware has thought about it and discussed it, and the quote overall sounds like this remastered version of the game may happen.

It would no doubt be one of the more recent titles to be considered for re-release so soon, but I would certainly take a next-gen graphics upgrade for the beloved trilogy. I think it's fair to say the sci-fi RPG was one of the faces of the last generation of gaming, despite its controversial ending.

Another Mass Effect game is being developed, though it will follow its own story and will not be a "Mass Effect 4" sequel. The trilogy originally started on Xbox 360, eventually making its way to PC, and later PS3 and Wii U. I would probably play a remastered version of the series, even if it is a little soon, but then again I'm a huge fan: will most people be so willing? The console lifespan is long, though, and Bioware has a whole generation to capitalize--it might be a few years yet.
