Entertainment Software Rating Board just gave "NieR: Automata" an M Rating due to mature content, partial nudity, strong language and blood. Given that "NieR: Automata" predecessor sports the same category; it came as no surprise for this one to get the M tag.
"NieR: Automata" is routing to M rating from the start with director Yoko Taro spearheading the project. Taro is the notable head of "Drakengard" series which features some vulgar materials. While "NieR: Automata"is a bigger franchise than "Drakengard," gamers consider that these "questionable" contents are essential for better grip to the storyline.
According to ESRB rating review for "NieR: Automata," the giveaway for M rating are characters that wear skimpy outfits. These include exposure of buttocks revealing mid-section and some male counterparts that were depicted nude. Although "NieR: Automata" was careful enough to censor male genitalia.
Strong language like "f**k" and "sh*t" were present in the entirety of "NieR: Automata." ESRB said that these slip of language are clearly audible and discernable on most occasions.
There are minor elements in M rating that was included in "NieR: Automata" as well. Weapons such as swords, spears, lances and others are element for M though it depends on how it was portrayed. What ESRB are looking for in M rated games are depictions such as impalement, blood splatters and realistic gunfights, Twinfinite said.
At any rate, "NieR: Automata" presents an interesting treat for gamers come early 2017. Assume the role of android trying to save the world against intergalactic robots by wielding weapons in your arsenal. Oh, there is a crossover as well where some weapons from "Final Fantasy XV" found its way through the game. This was already confirmed by Square Enix and even Noctis' primary sword is available.
"NieR: Automata" is initially available for PlayStation 4 players on March 7th next year. It is unclear if the game will opt for Xbox One as well although PC version was confirmed to come out after a short while.
