"Grand Theft Auto 5" has to be, without a doubt, the most successful installment of the famed "Grand Theft Auto" franchise. It's the first game that manages to offer both a satisfying single-player story (as always) and a well fleshed-out massively multiplayer experience. It's no wonder, then, that "GTA 5" has managed to sell six million physical copies in the UK alone more than three years after it first came out, especially in an environment full of constant sequels every year.
GameSpot confirms the big record by way of Eurogamer's sales reports, saying that the game hit this huge benchmark last week. That's six million hard copies of the game in the United Kingdom alone; it doesn't even factor in the many digital downloads it's gotten. The grand total of the game is 70 million copies around the world, making it untouched as the most successful "Grand Theft Auto" game so far. It helps that developer Rockstar Games continues to update "GTA Online," consistently adding new features for all players to enjoy, with the latest addition being the Import/Export feature.
What does "Grand Theft Auto 5"'s continued success mean for "Grand Theft Auto 6," though? For one thing, even though we already know that the sequel is in production as early as March this year, it's also a good conclusion that Rockstar will be taking their sweet time making it. As long as people are still paying for the three-year-old "GTA 5" and continuously supporting its multiplayer mode, there are no losses to recoup at all with the release of a new game.
As for the actual details surrounding "Grand Theft Auto 6"'s settings, if players are to believe this source that spoke with TechRadar, it's possible that the game is going to be set in a fictional Tokyo. There are many other possible candidates for the setting inspiration, however, such as London, Chicago, and Houston. We'll keep you up to date here with more information as we get them.
