After Metal Gear creator teased the concept on Twitter last week, Sony has announced a new bundle for its next-gen PlayStation 4.
It began with Kojima sharing a number of pictures from Famitsu of the MGS themed PSP and PlayStation 3 Sony had released in years past. The pictures were followed by this ominous tweet: "[SONY] × [PS4] × [MGS GZ] collaboration initiative is in progress."
True to his word, Sony is now offering a copy of the first half of Metal Gear Solid 5, Ground Zeroes, and a PS4 console that features a decal of Snake's infamous Foxhound unit. Known as the "PS4 x Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Fox Edition," the bundle unfortunately looks like it's a Japanese exclusive (for the time being at least) as there's no sign of the console on the US Sony Store, only the Japanese Sony Store.
The bundle is out in the land of the rising sun on March 20, and will sell for ¥46,980, or approximately $461. We'll let you know if word gets out that the bundle will be available anywhere else outside of Japan.
One half of what makes up the big picture of Metal Gear Solid V, Ground Zeroes acts as a prologue to The Phantom Pain, taking place in 1975, shortly after the events of Peace Walker, but nine years before Phantom Pain. Expect it to work as something of an expanded tutorial, helping to show newcomers the ups and downs, as well as feature "Side-Op" sub-missions, and a few challenge trials with ranking and leaderboards if you're feeling competitive. The game will take place at a U.S. black site facility in Cuba dubbed Camp Omega. Fans were introduced to the camp (as well as a mysterious disfigured mess of a man) in a trailer shown during an event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series.
The ESRB recently released its rating for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, saddling the game with an expected Mature rating, as well as a few potential spoilers. The game is expected to release on March 18.
