The Last of Us: Left Behind DLC Cinematic Trailer, Interview [VIDEO]

Check Out This Cinematic Trailer From The Last of Us: Left Behind

The Last of Us fans, you're less than a month away from a new story. The first bit of single-player DLC for the game, The Last of Us: Left Behind, is on track for a February 14th release. Because what says Valentine's day more than mold-sprouting zombies? Sony today unveiled a full cinematic trailer for the add-on, as well as an interview with the actresses behind the main characters.

As previously reported, the DLC will focus on the young character of Ellie before the events of the main game where she's sent off with Joel. Here she's still in the relative safety of her home before she deals with the outside world, hanging out with her older and more reckless friend Riley, whom she looks up to. Considering that Riley doesn't appear in the main game and that Ellie mentions some horrific incidents that led to their separation, we can only assume of the tragedy that will befall these poor girls. Certainly their impending doom will be utilized to make us feel even worse. Damn you, Naughty Dog!

Both actresses, Ashley Johnson as Ellie and Yaani King as Riley, sat down for an interview about their characters, which you can see below.

This add-on's success will certainly hinge on the relationship between the characters, although it's a big question whether it can free itself from the narrative shackles of the full game. The Last of Us relies on overly long, non-interactive cutscenes for emotional impact, a strategy that doesn't involve you in the characters at all and gives you the feeling of watching a film. The actual gameplay only focuses on stealth and combat and while the combat is really incredible it doesn't give you any more real insight into the characters. But hey, some people like watching impactful things happen to people before playing repetitive stealth sections!

The Last of Us: Left Behind hits the Playstation Store on February 14th for $14.99, and will no doubt be a massive success. Your fifteen bucks will also net you a digital comic and dynamic theme. Check out the opening scene of the game below and start crafting those shivs.
