Faced with over 80 Game of the Year nominations thanks to the brilliance of The Walking Dead: The Game, Telltale Games isn't resting on its laurels. The developer is currently working on the second season of The Walking Dead, Fables: The Wolf Among Us, and upcoming series based on Borderlands and A Game of Thrones. It seems like a lot for any developer but Telltale is always looking to the future, and the studio's co-founder knows what license they would love to acquire in the future. Bond. James Bond.
Telltale's chief technology officer and co-founder Kevin Bruner talked with OXM recently and revealed his love for 007 and dismay that he's been mistreated in games."I'm a giant James Bond fan and I'm always frustrated by games that make him a mass murderer," he told the mag. "He's a super-spy, and that's a different skillset, The films make him less of a mass murderer, and there's not much killing in the books - more spying and intrigue."
An adventure game starring 007 could really be incredible, especially considering that Bond is known for his snappy dialogue almost as much as his license to kill. Telltale working with a movie studio isn't absurd either- don't forget they had that licensing deal with Universal pictures that led to Back to the Future: The Game and Jurassic Park: The Game. The former was a fun series, the latter a spectacular misfire, although the cinematic moments in it were fixed up and honed to perfection in their next endeavor, The Walking Dead: The Game.
But what about them finally making their own IP instead of always working on established properties. After all, even their poker game is populated by characters from games, cartoons and movies. But wouldn't a new IP be preferable, now that Telltale has made its fortune? Possibly. "Licensing has played an important part in enabling this company to do as much as it's done without having to create a new IP wholecloth, which is a big undertaking with a lot of associated risk," CEO Dan Connors observed to OXM in an older interview. "[But] as we become bigger and can execute that, it gets more and more attractive." That interview is where Connors also admitted that a Star Wars game would be a dream for them.
But what do you folks think would be best for the company? Bond? Star Wars? Or something new entirely?
