If there's one thing Fallout fans are, it's dedicated. Hungry for information, the whole community came together recently to crack codes and mine secrets from the site for a rumored new Fallout game, only to be disappointed that the whole thing was nothing more than an elaborate hoax. However, long before the site went up, there was another group of fans dedicated to leaving their own mark on the Fallout universe, and thanks to Fallout fever, they've crossed that hurdle today, as the fan-film "Fallout: Lanius" has raked in over a half million views.
Encryption Films and Dracogen Inc. announced the news in a recent press release, and counts as a major stepping point for both the film and the team behind it.
"This has been a labour of love from the beginning" said Executive Producer Steven Dengler "It's made by fans for fans, and the fans have embraced it".
Dengler's not kidding. The team gathered the greenbacks through crowdsourcing from amateur film supporters and Fallout fans alike. The team managing to reach their $10,000 goal in April, and another $10,000 on top of that. 100,000 views came about in less than 24 hours of the movie's YouTube premiere. Even Bethesda took notice and made sure to tell everyone via its blog when the movie launched.
Director Wade K. Savage commented, "We are ecstatic with the numbers. Without any commercial promotion by a major YouTube network, Fallout: Lanius has achieved incredible viewership. Our fans have stayed with us from the beginning and it shows".
The movie is something of an origin story for Fallout: New Vegas's brutish monolith of a man and second in command of Caeasar's Legion, Legate Lanius. While a meager budget by Hollywood standards, the team made every penny count, and even managed to land the character's original voice actor Mitch Lewis to reprise his role. Every time the Legate opens his mouth and Lewis's voice comes tumbling out, it's chilling.
Producer Stuart Mackenzie also added: "The support from our fans has been truly astounding and without their passion for our film and all things fallout, we could never have reached this milestone. And it's not over yet!"
The release noted the team has a new "micro-short" coming up, and staff is currently working on a new series. No word yet if either project is Fallout related. "We think our fans will be very excited" continued Savage "We have some interest from some major studios to make it a reality and we are currently shopping it around. It won't be long until we lock something in." In case you missed it, you can check out "Fallout: Lanius" below.
