Here's some "Inception" level meta-game stuff right here. Nuketown, a fan-favorite map that's been featured in both Call of Duty: Black Ops titles, has made its way into another game, all thanks to a creative fan with a bit of free time and a map editor. Redditor LiarInGlass brought the infamous map all the way from middle America to the shores of Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto Online.
As you can see from the picture above, it's pretty faithful to how it appeared in the Call of Duty games. The only big loss is that you can't enter any of the houses, but a number of garages, rooftops, and backyards are accessible. It's an impressive map, and a work in progress with additions planned: "I loved this so much," said Liar in the thread introducing the map. "From this, I saw a few issues I didn't notice first, like the big open areas by the houses without an object to get back over the shrubs. I might have to add some wood there. If you look, I always place the wood piles near something that you can jump onto, so keep an eye out for those wood piles. Also, look around for ways to get on TOP of the houses, I've added some little surprises up there!"
A maximum of 12 players start out on the map with assault rifles, but can pickup additional weapons like SMGs, shotguns, grenades, and sticky bombs, provided they keep their eyes open. Health and armor pickups are also sprinkled throughout.
Nuketown first appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops. One of the smallest maps, it focused on close quarters combat, and was a bit claustrophobic. A futuristic upgrade would later appear in Black Ops II's zombie mode as a bonus map, called Nuketown 2025.
This isn't the only CoD map that Liar has recreated. He's also made Shipment from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
More pictures of the map can be seen over at imgur, and the map is also available for download for anyone with a Rockstar Social Club account that wants to give the map a whirl. To play, click "Add to Game", load GTA:O, and find LiarInGlass Team Deathmatch on your map near the right side of San Andreas above the highway. At the moment, it only seems to be available for the Xbox 360 version.
Given the early buzz it's generating, I wouldn't be surprised if this became a fan favorite. Rockstar has said that user generated content that gets the highest ratings and reviews will go on to become "Rockstar Verified Jobs," which will be shared with the GTA Online community. Despite the buzz about the map, I could foresee some difficulty for this Nuketown to reach such acclaim, given it's based on a map from an Activision title. Hopefully the publisher won't threaten any sort of action.
