For whatever reason, dinosaur enthusiasts and the Battlefield franchise go together like milk and cereal. For a long time now, fans have been asking the developers to add in one of the prehistoric thunder lizards, and it looks like DICE finally relented...kind of. It's not like there's a T-Rex traipsing around Battlefield 4, waiting to be unleashed by the People's Liberation Army. Disappointingly, it's actually nothing more than a bit of audio, but it's worth checking out. Directions below.
If you've ever played on the Rogue Transmission map, you may have noticed two switches hiding around the map, as well as a few other dino-riffic references. If you can activate these two buttons / switches simultaneously, you'll hear the cry of the Crataceous carnivore. Ergo, you're gonna need a buddy's help with this one.
The first button / switch can be found atop the crane not far from the A flag, which can be seen on the map. Have you or your buddy hang out there for a bit. The second is a little more difficult to get to, located on the edge of the giant satellite dish. Make sure you have some explosives, as you'll need to blow up the edge of the dish. Once the portion is done away with, jump down onto the supporting pillar. You'll find a similar button there. Coordinate the timing with your friend, as you'll need to push the buttons at the same time.
If you did it right, you'll hear a beep, and you won't be able to interact with the button. To hear the sound better make sure to change your audio settings to 'War Tapes.'
Shortly thereafter, you'll hear heavy footprints, the sound of trees being felled, and a jurassic cry. Congrats, you've pulled it off. Now, back to that shark hunt.
To avoid getting your hopes up, it deserves to be pointed out that this doesn't work every time. Pushing the buttons at the right time can activate one of two sound files, one of which is NOT a dinosaur roar. Presumably because the DICE staff was forced to let go of Dr. Ian Malcolm after he kept rambling on about chaos theory.
If you're having problems getting it to work, or you're just plain lazy and rather have someone else do all the hard work, I'd suggest watching the YouTube video below.
Battlefield 4 stars a new protagonist to the series, that of Sergeant Daniel Recker, a member of the elite Tombstone Squad. He and the squad learn that an Admiral is in the midst of planning a coup to overthrow the current Chinese regime, with Russia ready to back him up.
You don't have to be an expert in foreign relations and politics to realize this would cause one hell of a domino effect that would see the whole planet embroiled in war.
Battlefield 4 is currently available now for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One.
