For those of you still able to play Battlefield 4's China Rising DLC, you may have discovered a new assignment contained within. Here's how you can get it.
Unlike mosf of the game's other assignments, gaining the "Phantom Prospect" assignment is a little more non-linear, because nothing you do in the game will have any effect. You first have to log-in to your Battlelog page. Once you do, head to the leader board section. There, you'll see the Phantom Prospect logo at the bottom.Selecting it eads to a bizarre PC boot up screen that prompts you for a password. The password you need to enter in "BUMPINTHENIGHT."
Why that as a password? It's bizarre, but it seems like a reference to a mission of that name in EA's other FPS, Medal of Honor: Warfighter. In said mission, boxes appear bearing the same logo of boxes in Battlefield 4's Paracel Storm map. But we'll get to that later.
Entering the password at the PC loadup unloacks the assignment, and shows you what you'll need to do to get the new dog tag: get 200 kills with an assault rifle, 200 kills with a main battletank and a 300 meter head-shot. All this must be done on Premium.
It's a hefty goal, and it seems like those who've unlocked the assignment haven't grabbed the dog tag yet to see if that's the end of the journey down the rabbit hole. But here's the odd thing.
A dedicated Battlefield 4 fan out there thought that "Phantom Prospect" was a fairly random name for an assignment, so they did some digging. It seems that "Phantom Prospect" is the name of one of the books in author Alex Archer's "Rogue Angel" series, and features the massive extinct shark, the megalodon. It's thought that the same type of shark is lurking on Battlefield 4's Paracel Storm map.
The video below explains the rest of the connections, including DICE's connection to a web series, and a staffer's confirmation that there is indeed a massive feature yet to be uncovered.
It's possible that this is just DICE having a bit of fun with the fans, but maybe there's something to it. I feel as though it's worth noting that in the campaign, during the South China Sea, players can earn a Carcharodon dog tag, the first part of the giant shark's namesake. Anyway, check out the video below for a bit more "depth."
