Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 was released last year to a major fan reception, its evolved gameplay and strong script making for the best installment of the series. Naturally enough, fans are now looking ahead to the next Mass Effect installment (preferably Mass Effect 4) in the franchise. And if you belong to that huge group of ME fans, you will be glad to know that Bioware has confirmed that more details on the game will arrive in the coming year.
But that’s about it, as far as details for the next game from the company as of now is concerned. And although it’s not much to follow up on, fans will at least be delighted to know that the game next Mass Effect is indeed under development at Bioware.
Although Bioware has been teasing fans about a new Mass Effect game for a while now with sporadic details flowing in about the development of the game, hardly anything reliable has been revealed about the game. However, it seems like Bioware is back in the frontline with the new game yet again only with a “hope” that the developer will be able to enlighten us further on the game in the coming year.
Aaryn Flynn, the GM over at the Bioware Edmonton & Montreal studios, recently took to Twitter only to reveal: “More info sometime in 2014 I hope. That’s the most specific I can be.”
There’s hardly anything in that to follow up on the main game, isn’t it? But rest assured that this is as far as it goes as of now, although we are hopeful that Bioware will reveal a bit more about the game before the year ends. Although we can’t be sure of that either.
However, what we can do now is reflect back on whatever small that has been revealed about the game until now. First off, we know that the next Mass Effect will be under the supervision of Chris Wynn, former producer and a key member of the Gears of War team at Epic, who joined BioWare as the Sr. Development Director for the next Mass Effect back in July. So we might be expecting some elements of Gears of War in the next Mass Effect.
Next up, it has also been confirmed that the next game in the franchise will arrive with better animations and user-friendly gameplay. Bioware Montreal’s Yanick Roy stated on his official Twitter page later in the same month: “Too soon to say, but we'll be sure to be friendly both to old fans and to newcomers.”
Later in September, however, Michael Gamble, Producer on the Mass Effect franchise wrote: “What’s even more fun than working on the design of a new fictional world? Taking our first steps into it and looking around.”
He also added: “In a milestone review for next Mass Effect game. Team is doing outstanding work. Looks beautiful, fun, ambitious, and Mass Effect-y!”
Sadly enough, that’s all we know about the game, but if Bioware remains true to its words we can expect a bit more about the game early next year.
