After Hitman: Absolution and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it seems like Square Enix and Eidso-Montreal really love their companion apps, because the studios announced that they're working on another for the upcoming THIEF, set to hit both Andriod and iOS.
According to a press release, "The companion app will enable fans to gain additional insight into the THIEF universe and offer a second-screen experience to fully engage with the game upon release."
The app comes in two flavors:
* the lite version that comes at no cost is "available in multiple languages later this month includes THIEF
* those willing to shell out $2.99 can opt for the full version, and is "packed with additional functionality and content including," like a Direct Link to the main game to track your in-game stats and stolen loot, official wiki, interactive digital maps, first two issues of the THIEF digital comic, art and background content, and access to merch.
Both versions of the app will be available at the game's release this February.
The team's also announced that anyone who pre-orders the game at GameStop gets some exclusive bonus options, which includes the full version of the app. Other goodies include the game's official soundtrack, and the in-game Bank Heist mission.
Lastly, there's also a new trailer out for the game, titled, "Channeling of the Primal," showing the moment when protagonist Garrett and his former protégé Erin discover that the otherworldly artifact they were hired to steal is at the center of a bizarre ritual; a ceremony conducted by a secretive group of robed men who intend to harness a mysterious energy called The Primal, hinting at the game's main story.
Another press release further detailed, "The Primal has, until now, only ever been rumored to exist. Garret feels the job is too dangerous and attempts to call it off but the rebellious Erin refuses to abandon the heist. The ritual begins and the force of the Primal is unleashed, violently shaking the foundations of the building and Erin falls to her tragic death.
As time passes The City begins to change. The population begins to change and so too does Garrett himself. It becomes clear that the force of The Primal is far greater than anyone could ever imagine.
Check out the trailer below. THIEF is due for North American release on February 25, 2014, for PC, PlayStation 3 and 4, and Xbox One and 360.
