After much speculation, The CW has officially announced that it is canceling the historical fantasy drama “Reign” after the airing of its fourth season. According to reports, network executives made the decision even while production of “Reign” Season 4 is in full swing. But, producers have seen the cancelation coming as it is said that they were already in talks with the network to cancel the series after the coming season.
Expecting the end
"Reign" co-creator Laurie McCarthy admitted that they were expecting the series being cancelled soon. She added that it was something that was often discussed during their plotting for the new season. McCarthy said that she hopes that the show’s fans will find the end of the series really moving and satisfying.
Queen Elizabeth I hands the end of Mary, Queen of Scots
There are no details of the plot for “Reign” Season 4 as of yet but it will definitely be the culmination for the story of Mary, Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane). She is expected to continue her fight against all the threats that are intended to bring her down. And, if the series chooses to remain faithful to the real historical accounts, Mary will soon meet her end after Queen Elizabeth I (Rachel Skarsten) orders her execution.
“Reign” Season 4 spoilers also indicate that Mary will enter a new relationship after the death of her husband King Francis II of France (Toby Regbo). She is said to be marrying Lord Darnley (Will Kemp). But, the marriage will reportedly end in disaster because Darnley is power hungry.
Excited for what’s after the series’ end
Meanwhile, Kane, who was rumored to be not coming back regardless whether “Reign” will be extended beyond Season 4, expressed her feelings on the cancellation of the series via her Instagram account. She said she was saddened by the latest development yet, she is also looking forward to what happens after the series ends. The 16-episode “Reign” Season 4 will premiere on February 10, 2017 on The CW.
