Fans of "NieR: Automata," the upcoming live-action role-playing game from Square Enix and PlatinumGames, have an opportunity to experience the game during a live stream on Thursday, Dec. 15. Dengeki Online will host the live stream, which will feature live gameplay as well as exclusive details about the upcoming PlatinumGames project.
The live stream will be held at 8 p.m. JST on YouTube and on Niconico Live. Gematsu says that the broadcast will include interviews with the people behind "NieR: Automata," including PlatinumGames producer Eijiro Nishimura, Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito, YoRHa No.9 Type S voice actor Natsuki Hanae, and YoRHa No.2 Type B voice actress Yui Ishikawa. Writer and editor Tadatsugu will reportedly moderate the event.
Prior to its release in 2017, fans of "NieR: Automata" will get another chance to get a rare glimpse of the game when it becomes playable during a worldwide demo on Thursday, Dec. 22. During the demo, gamers will be able to play as combat android 2B, one of the twin protagonists, as she battles her way through various enemies, which includes robots and other mechanical creatures.
The "NieR: Automata" story occurs in the same post-apocalyptic universe as the 2010 role-playing video game "NieR," which was a spin-off from the "Drakengard" series. It is a video game that gamers either love or hate --those who love it appreciate how it harkens back to the generation of old-school consoles while those who hate it don't get its appeal. Like its predecessor, "NieR: Automata" is often quirky and even downright odd, but unlike the first "NieR," PC gamers will be able to play this sequel.
"NieR: Automata" will be made available for PS4 on Feb. 23 in Japan, March 7 in the U.S., and March 10 in Europe and Australia. The Microsoft Windows version will be rolled out sometime in 2017.
