It's always nice when developers can make nice homage to the fans of their games. I hope you're familiar with the Burch clan, the family trio that's been the stars of a number of bizarre but always funny shorts of the "Hey Ash Whatcha Playing" web series, and the Burch siblings have managed to eek their way beyond just cracking jokes about games, to being a part of them. Anthony Burch found himself as the lead writer of Borderlands 2 and the DLC, while Ashley lent her voice and humor to the same game's lovably insane explosive expert, Tiny Tina. Now, they're set to "appear" in another game, and they're bringing Poppa Burch with 'em.
"She's playing Saints Row IV, that's what. Ash. Anthony. Papa Burch. Now available as homies. Who better to back the Boss than the Saints' biggest fans? Would you kindly buy this pack?" reads Steam's description. The cleverly named "Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin' Pack" is a PC exclusive for the time being, available for download from Steam, and sees the Burch trifecta of Ashley, Anthony, and Daddy Burch available as homies.
Burch announced the pack in a new post on the HAWP website, writing that the idea for the DLC came about after Anthony and Ash "met a bunch of cool guys from Volition at PAX and E3 and geeked out at them every chance we could get...Then, at some point after we parted ways, some dudes at Volition thought it might be cool to do a Hey Ash pack. 'We were talking about stuff we could do,' one of them told me, 'and somebody suggested a Hey Ash pack and our producer turned around in his chair, deleted what we'd previously slated for December, and just said, 'I typed it in the spreadsheet. We're doing that now.'"
Ashley's professed her love for the Saints Row series in a number of "HAWP" episodes, seen below, and Volition is rewarding the free advertising fittingly enough. The last doesn't exactly revolve around the Saints Row series, but I can't turn down the opportunity to share a video featuring one of the franchise's standout weapons, the infamous purple dildo bat.
No word on if the DLC pack will ever hit consoles, but PC gamers can have it for $2.99.
Saints Row IV sees players who have gone from taking control of the streets to now ruling the entire country as the Commander in Chief. Instead of common gangsters, players now must fend off an alien invasion with little more than a wide range of presidential super powers. Easily the most realistic premise in gaming. The game is currently available for the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
The first DLC, Enter the Dominatrix, hit in October. The next, The Saints Save Christmas, is out later this month.
