Someone has leaked the title for "Star Wars: Episode VIII." According to a source, the sequel is called "Star Wars: Force of Destiny."
The rumored title reportedly came from an AVS Forum. According to Heroic Hollywood, a source revealed that Lucasfilm filed for trademark rights recently for "Star Wars: Episode VIII" with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Lucasfilm signed up the sequel under the working title "Star Wars: Force of Destiny."
However, this title should be taken with a grain of salt until Lucasfilm or Disney confirms it. Regardless, it would not seem farfetched to call "Star Wars" Episode VIII" as such. Episode VII was called "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," so it only seems feasible for the sequel to once again have a Force-centered title.
"Star Wars: Force of Destiny" would also fit with speculations about the story for "Star Wars: Episode VIII." It is believed that the sequel will center on Rey (Daisy Ridley) and her search for her true lineage. Speculations are rife that the film will finally reveal Rey's destiny as a Jedi warrior.
There have been claims that Rey was born out of The Force, which contradicts theories that she is Princess Leia and Han Solo's daughter. She is supposedly destined to be a Jedi, much like Anakin Skywalker, who was also born out of The Force.
Likewise, the sequel will supposedly show Luke Skywalker teach Rey the ways of The Force and how she should not become like her ancestor, Anakin, who later turned into the villain Darth Vader. This is why, it only seems fitting to call "Star Wars: Episode VIII" as "Star Wars: Force of Destiny," since Episode VII already revealed that Rey has the Force (thus it is called "Force Awakens.")
Regardless, Lucasfilm and Disney will eventually reveal the title for "Star Wars: Episode VIII." Fans will know if the rumored "Star Wars: Force of Destiny" title is indeed the sequel to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," ahead of the film's release on Dec. 15, 2017.
