World of Warcraft Movie Delayed to March 2016

World of Warcraft Movie's Release Pushed Back to March 2016

As much as we hate delivering bad news, sometimes there's just no getting around it. Here’s a downer that will definitely leave a fan or two depressed, especially if you are an ardent World of Warcraft fan. According to reports, it has been revealed that the upcoming Warcraft movie will not be released before March 2016.

Simply titled “Warcraft,” the movie's release has been pushed back to March 11, 2016, according to a report via Variety. With Legendary joining Universal as a new partner, it seems like both of the companies have altered the release date for their upcoming projects, with "Seventh Son" being pushed back to 2015.

The "Warcraft" movie had an initial release date of December 18, 2015, but the date was altered since J.J. Abrams’ "Star Wars" flick is also arriving at the same time. As disappointing as it sounds, we feel that this was good decision. Despite the built-in fanbase, it could be a bit difficult for "Warcraft" movie to compete with the new Star Wars.

Directed by Duncan Jones, son of David Bowie (yes, the Ziggy Stardust Bowie), the movie will also feature screenwriter Charles Leavitt of "Blood Diamond," "The Mighty", and "K-PAX" fame, who will be responsible for penning the "Warcraft" script.

While nothing substantial is known about the movie this far, it has still been revealed that the movie is set to feature Anduin Lothar, the leader of the Alliance, and Durotan, the first Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan, with the plot following the war between orcs and humans.

The details were revealed at the recently concluded BlizzCon earlier this month with Blizzard executives confirming the information:

“The Warcraft movie will probably end up with a PG-13 rating, Jones said, but reassured the audience of its adult content. He pointed to the Batman movies, which were PG-13, and that scene with the Joker and the pencil,” Eurogamer reported at the time.

“Visually, it'll be a mixture of live action and CGI, with a style described as ‘Avatar meets Game of Thrones.’ Jones also compared the film to Gladiator, calling it ‘gritty’.”

Both Colin Farell and Paula Patton were at one time linked to the movie. Earlier this month, Farrell admitted to reading the script, saying, "it's amazing," and he "loved" it. But he had no idea about how the project was progressing.
