Duke Roufus has been handling a couple of mixed martial arts fighters, most notable of which is CM Punk aka Phil Brooks. He is aware of the poor showing of the former WWE star at UFC 203 but believes another match could be happening in four to five months.
Roufus is aware that CM Punk didn’t make quite an impression during his UFC debut fight against upstart Mickey Gall, CBS Sports reported. It was a one-sided match Dana White technically term as a one-and-done deal.
That said, CM Punk’s future in the UFC is not looking too hot. White seemingly made this clear when he sounded off that the former wrestling star’s next fight may not be in the Octagon. Just the same, Punk vows he is not done though most believe that the dish was more about pride.
Roufus has now come out into the open and believes that CM Punk will eventually fight again, Cageside Seats reported. He singles out how the popularity of the 38-year-old will still help the UFC in promotions, meaning there is still a chance he may step back in the Octagon.
Remote as that may sound, it all boils down to who he could face. The problem is that Dana White may not have much to work on. Gall is an upstart meaning any opponent lower in caliber could be hard to come by. The best bet is a new face or a rookie in the UFC circle.
It may be best to note that this is what Roufus foresees and not Dana White or the UFC. It could make sense though fan acceptance will play a major role. Unless White is able to pull some strings or Punk proves that he deserves another chance in the Octagon, another match could be high-risk – something the UFC may not totally be sold to.
