Disappointing news for those of you looking to stream your own pieces of gameplay from Microsoft's Xbox One console upon launch - Twitch has confirmed with Microsoft's Xbox Wire site that streaming won't launch when the console does. Rather, the system won't allow for it until sometime in early 2014.
"We are working to ensure the initial Twitch on Xbox One broadcasting experience meets the expectations of the Twitch community," said the firm. "So while this feature won't be available right away, we'll let you know as soon as it is ready."
To clarify, you can watch Twitch streams, you just can't stream directly from the console.
Despite the inability to actually stream, Xbox One owners will be able to get their own list of achievements from watching Twitch streams, which the company revealed on its blog:
Newcomer: Watch one hour of live video on Twitch
Competitive: Watch 10 hours of live video on Twitch
Best Viewer: Watch 100 hours of live video on Twitch
Hipster: Watch one hour of live video on Twitch channels that have less than 10 viewers
Talent Scout: Watch 10 hours of live video on Twitch channels that have less than 10 viewers
Max Bandwith: Watch a single channel on Twitch for more than eight hours consecutively
Around the Clock: Watch at least one minute of live video on Twitch in each hour of a full day
Prime Time: Watch a total of 10 hours of live video on Twitch between peak viewing hours from 7:30 to 11:30PM, on a weekday
You can see a complete list of services and apps that will be available for the console in respective countries when it launches this week.
Microsoft's Xbox One launches on Nov. 22, and will be available in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and the United States for $499.
The new console claims an 8-core x86 processor and Microsoft hopes it will take the place of the family room cable box by letting you watch Blu-ray movies and TV through the console, in a "seamless transition" that lets players switch from playing games to watching shows and/or movies. It will come fully loaded with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.
The following games offered at launch include Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, FIFA 14, Killer Instinct, Ryse: Son of Rome, and more. You can check out a list of the install sizes for all of the launch games here.
A cross-country tour where Microsoft is demoing the system at various locations is already underway, and demo kiosks have begun arriving at certain retailers.
