On Thursday night, Taylor Swift dropped a sneak preview of her surprise collaboration with Zayn Malik for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, called "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," simultaneously announcing the song's release on iTunes. Unsurprisingly, the track is sexy AF, and definitive proof that T-Swift and Zayn should have collaborated long ago. While the One Direction alum didn't share a separate sneak preview of the song to his own social media, he did share a sweet Polaroid of the music superstars hanging out with one of Taylor's cats - which hopefully suggests that the pair are now BFFs thanks to the magic of making music together.
For Taylor, this marks her first official offering since 1989, her fifth studio album. Hits include "Blank Space," "Style," "Out of the Woods," "Bad Blood," and "Shake It Off." There had been speculation from fans that she would drop a new album in October because of her two-year album release cycle. During the summer, Swift earned buzz when it emerged that she had ghostwritten "This Is What You Came For" for ex-boyfriend DJ Calvin Harris and collaborator Rihanna. (Taylor's credit came in the form of the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg.)
As for Zayn, he dropped his debut solo release in March of 2016. Malik's Mind of Mine featured the lead single "Pillowtalk." Taylor and the former One Direction star didn't even do advance hype for the song, but despite choosing a surprise release, their collaboration soared to number one on iTunes, noted Hollywood Life. It took only an hour after the release of the duet "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" on December 8 to hit the top spot. Swift was so excited that she shared a screenshot of the iTunes chart featuring their Fifty Shades Darker song ranked at No. 1, posting it on social media.
"Well that escalated quickly," wrote Taylor. So how does Zayn's girlfriend Gigi Hadid feel about this sexy duet with Swift? Gigi turned to Twitter to react, proudly tweeting her support.
