A new kind of grocery shopping is coming in early 2017. Amazon will be opening a physical store soon where customers will no longer need to wait in line at the counter for checkout. Dubbed Amazon Go, this grocery store is going to come with the world's most advanced shopping technology.
As detailed on the official website, Amazon created the Amazon Go for the purpose of eradicating the lines or queues upon checkout of grocery items. The company released a promo video of their upcoming store and it has demonstrated to be something that's quite unbelievable. But Amazon will prove the new level of shopping experience through the Just Walk Out technology.
So how does it work? It's actually quite simple. Customers will only need to possess the Amazon Go app in order to get through the store. As seen in the video, they will need to swipe it and a machine will allow them to walk in. After that, customers can start picking up the items they want to get. They can directly put it in their shopping bags and once they are done, they can just head right out without having the need to wait in line to pay.
The Just Walk Out technology of Amazon Go will automatically detect when products are taken from the shelves. It also automatically makes changes if a customer changes his or her mind and decides to return it to the shelf. Basically, the virtual cart is updated every time the customer takes or returns something. Everything will then just be charged through the customer's Amazon account. The app will also send a receipt.
The Amazon Go is undeniably something to look forward to. It's scheduled to open to the public in early 2017 at 2131 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to experience this unless they go to the address. Reports said that Amazon debunked the rumors that they will be opening 2,000 grocery stores across the U.S.
An Amazon spokesperson said that they have no plans of such for Amazon Go. The company is still in the process of learning so everyone will just to watch for Amazon's plans in the future soon.
