Nintendo UK confirmed through twitter that the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" has sold over 2.1 million copies in Europe since launching. Over its two weeks in the the market, European fans have been quite the strong supporters of the game; thanks to the positive impact of the "Pokemon GO" game. Looking through how game sales evolved in time, the 2.1 million copies sold is a record.
In comparison according to the Attack of the Fanboy, the "Pokemon X&Y" game sold 4.3 million copies in its lifetime. The "Pokemon Sun and Moon" surpassed half of that number in just over two weeks since launching. While it seem a trend that Pokemon games give their best selling records during the first few months since launching; the series is also known to maintain steady sales in the market long after it launched.

Meanwhile, some of the few things that make the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" game so successful include the fact that it highly relates to the "Pokemon GO" game as mentioned. Also, the gameplay in the Sun and moon series has changed in a big way. This alone raised curiosity among fans; hence the massive number in sales.
With the Gyms gone, replaced by some brand new sceneries, trainers are bound to return and play the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" game. The 85 percent increase in sales compared to the "Pokemon X&Y" during its first two weeks in the market is one of Nintendo's biggest successes in the gaming market to date.
A recent report by the Business Wire said, the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" game received the highest number of pre orders in the history of Nintendo games. That being said, it is now Nintendo's fastest selling game in the Americas in the history of the gaming company.
