Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date, News & Update: FinFeet Technology Lawsuit To Cause Launch Delayed?

Samsung Galaxy S8 launch might be delayed due some developments. According to reports, Samsung Electronics has been sued over the use of FinFET technology that is believed to power the Snapdragon 835 processor of the Samsung Galaxy S8.

The Korean tech giant has reportedly been sued by KAIST IP, a US-based intellectual property management wing of the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. The legal suit was due to the use of FinFEET, which was said to power the Snapdragon 835 processor of the Samsung Galaxy S8.

FinFEET is a manufacturing technology that utilizes a 10 nanometer chip-based processor to give 40 percent lower power usage and 27 percent better performance than the current processors like the Samsung Exynos 7420. Given the legal action, many believe that it may have been too early for Samsung Electronics to count on the said technology for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8.

Samsung Galaxy S8 lawsuit claims that Samsung Electronics is using the KAIST chip technology for Samsung Galaxy S8 without permission, and that the FinFEET was stolen by the company. However, reports indicate that Samsung is not the only company that  uses the technology. In fact, Intel is also working on it, yet it has acquired its license from the KAIST.

That said, Samsung Galaxy S8 launch is now rumored to likely be delayed due to this development, Yahoo reported. Meanwhile, the South Korean government has reportedly stepped in on the probe regarding the real cause of the Note 7 issue. A team of experts has delegated by the South Korea's National Assembly to investigate the actual cause of the Note 7 battery issue.

Samsung engineers are expected to join the said team of experts, whose aim is to finally solve the mystery behind the issues. On the other hand, an independent research laboratory Instrumental, has been reported to conduct its own investigation about the matter.

The team of experts believes that Samsung Electronics has made a risky design plan with the Galaxy Note 7, in an attempt to give more for the device, which resulted to less than the ideal tolerance between the phone chassis and the battery, according to The Bit Bag.
