iMac 2017 Release Date, Specs, Features, News & Update: Apple Hybrid Could Use Server-Grade SoC Intel Xeon Processor For Next All-In-One Desktop

Aside from the laptops, phones, and tablets on Apple’s end, there is also the big computing solutions such as the iMac 2017 to look forward to next year. Severely overshadowed, this is one device expected to stand out as well to select customers.

In a previous post, the matter on what kind of processor the iMac 2017 would be carrying was being discussed. The immediate choice is of course seeing the hybrid sport an Intel Kaby Lake processor with the understanding that Apple would have the ample stocks to distribute to its product line next year.

The coming of an Intel Kaby Lake processor apparently goes beyond the iMac 2017. There is also the MacBook Pro 2017 to consider, considering the recently released model has gotten its share of flak for using Intel Skylake instead.

But what if Apple ups the stakes a bit and move to an Intel Xeon processor? This chip is a server grade SoC which could be overcooking the iMac 2017 a bit. Then again, more power would be welcome to users, assuming that the Cupertino company does consider using it.

Right now, all this may be wishful thinking but nevertheless possible. iMac 2017 users have been craving for more power behind devices, particularly the ones into photo and video editing. But can an iMac 2017 accommodate such a powerful processor?

The fact that an Intel Skylake or Kaby Lake processor share the same socket could make an Intel Xeon processor happen. Both use LGA-1151 socket standards for the CPU to connect to the motherboard, per reports. If so, possibly seeing an iMac 2017 sport a Xeon chip could happen.

If even Apple does consider it, this could be reserved to the top-of-the-line iMac 2017 – particularly the 27-inch variant. If so, this is an option made for the professional who prefer to use machines that can serve them without boundaries.
