However, rumors suggest that Dean might be making a big character adjustment that fans won't necessary like.
As of now, Dean Ambrose is the top face of WWE's Smackdown since the brand extension back in July; That is until he lost the WWE Wolrd Champion to AJ Styles at WWE No Mercy. The rivalry continued on WWE TLC but Dean Ambrose once again was defeated by James Ellsworth who turned heel in the process.
It looks like Dean Ambrose could be out of the WWE title for the time being as long as Ellsworth will continue to be a menace to him. Dean Ambrose has to take care of James Ellsworth first before setting his sights again on the WWE World Champion. Fans are unhappy of this storyline between Dean Ambrose and James Ellsworth and the feel that the storyline for is not good for Dean Ambrose's character.
But according to reports, WWE has other plans for Dean Ambrose as 2016 ends and may set Dean Ambrose up for a potential match on Wrestlemania 33 at Orlando. Dean Ambrose has been known as an anti-hero, marching to the beat of his own drum. And it his clashes with authority are what made him a fan favorite. But sine his days as a member of The Shield, he hasn't been featured in any big anti-authority angle. If reports are true, then we could see Shane McMahon against Dean Ambrose.
It may look like the potential matchup of Shane McMahon and Dean Ambrose would seem unlikely. But the seeds are already planted on WWE Smackdown. An example of which is when Shane attempted to keep Ambrose out of the arena and being defied. It has been said that this is the start of the feud.
However, since both Shane McMahon and Dean Ambrose are face characters, one of them would have to change. Shane McMahon is the natural authority figure in the WWE so it's natural for Dean Ambrose to against him. But since Dean Ambrose is at a crossroads, shift to heel might shake the character up and help with his popularity.
