Prince Harry is having trouble tearing himself away from his long-distance squeeze, Meghan Markle. It is reported that the British royal - who took a last-minute detour on the way home from an official Caribbean tour to drop in on the "Suits" actress - has added an extra day to his stay to see her.
He's come under some criticism for taking a 1,700-mile detour to Toronto, which could reportedly cost British taxpayers and flouts royal convention that official working trips are not to be mixed with personal travel. According to a source, Kensington Palace originally said that the prince would fly directly home from Barbados, without making a stop in Toronto to see Markle, who stars on the USA Network cable series "Suits." Harry reportedly had public engagements in the UK this week. But the paper claims that even "moments" before he boarded a puddle jumper to meet a flight to London - aides were still saying Prince Harry wouldn't be going to Canada, where Markle films her show but is on a break during its hiatus.
However, he then headed for the arms of his American paramour. Now we're told he's decided to stay in Toronto. He canceled his seat on a British Airways fight and reportedly paid for another to Toronto instead. But UK taxpayers apparently may have to foot the bill for his police protection. Markle and Prince Harry met in May at an event for his Invictus Games in Toronto and have been a couple since June. And the romance appears to have become serious quickly.
LA native Markle has reported already met Prince Harry's brother, Prince William, and William's spouse, Kate Middleton. And in November, Prince Harry played Markle's knight in shining armor by having the palace send out an unprecedented statement lambasting the press and "social-media trolls" for harassing her. The letter released by Kensington Palace claimed that there had been "racial undertones" in some of the coverage about the actress, who describes herself as biracial, and said that she and her family had been hounded by reporters.
