Legendary phone manufacturer Nokia has been out of the game for a few years now following their failure to get with the program and evolve their line, that much is true. But after learning from their mistakes, it seems as though the brand (with an almost completely different company backing it behind the name) is poised to make a comeback next year. After being heavily rumored to come out with a couple of new phones packing an Android OS, it's confirmed that Nokia will be putting out these phones, such as the D1C, early in 2017.
The company itself had made the big announcement after news had leaked: the new Nokias will most likely be coming in February 2017. In an interview with the Economic Times of India, current Nokia and HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela says that they're looking to go after brand recall in selling the new phones. A report by Know Your Mobile sheds some new light into what the new Android phones from Nokia are going to look like. There will be at least three new phones next year, and two flagship models, which may or may not be two variants of the D1C, that will rival the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Apple iPhone 8 next year.
The Nokia D1C is rumored to be packing a 5-inch 1080p-resolution display, 3 GB of RAM, 16GB of memory for the built-in storage, a 16 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera, as well as the perfunctory Android 7.1 Nougat. That doesn't seem to be a totally worldbeating set of specs for a new Nokia phone, considering that the Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with 4 GB of RAM for comparison. While it will definitely hold its own, it looks like there will have to be some other new, mindblowing features that Nokia has to have up its sleeve for the D1C, otherwise it's unsure how much they're planning to compete with the big names.
If the rumors are indeed true, the Nokia D1C and other models it's planned are coming in a couple of months, and everyone will most likely be getting updates, leaks, and rumors fairly quickly over the next month. HMD Global will be unveiling the new phones at the Mobile World Congress 2017 on February 27 to March 2, and it's likely that the phones will go on sale shortly after they do.
