Sony Will Eventually Stream PS4 Games, Practicing Methodical Approach With Gaika, Claims Analyst

Sony will be methodical with its approach with Gaikai, PS4 game streaming on the cards

Sony’s acquisition of Gaikai before the final release of the company’s upcoming next generation console PlayStation 4 is an attempt to stream games over the internet. Now, it's speculated that while Sony will indeed stream PS4 games with its help, the company will still practice a methodical approach with Gaikai.

Recently speaking to Gamingbolt about the subject, Senior Analyst At IHS, Christine Arrington, stated that Sony’s approach will be methodical with Gaikai, and that fans can expect PS4 games to be streamed soon via the technology.

“Yes, I think Sony is using a very methodical approach to the cloud implementing capabilities slowly. Eventually I think this will lead to PS4 games being included,” Arrington stated.

Additionally, she also spoke about consoles that will arrive in the near future, while also stating her own mind on addressing certain views “such as Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada’s comments that Sony’s next console [PS5] after the PS4 would be a cloud-based service rather than a physical device.”

“There is merit to that concept. There has to be something that is provided in a console that cannot be provided in a service based in the cloud. That could be many different things and eight years from now it is hard to say what that might be. Things that come to mind are interface technologies, such as augmented reality, or display concepts such as virtual reality,” she added.

“For the last few cycles the focus has been on graphics capabilities, this time around it is on interface, media services, and multi-screen access. Even if Microsoft and Sony move to cloud based services it isn’t inconceivable that another hardware make could come along with new capabilities and launch a new console in the market.”

Sony announced back in February that the company will be using the Gaikai tech to stream games over the internet. It was later revealed in June that the service won't be available immediately at launch, but rather sometime in 2014.

Apart from that, the service was also revealed to be heading to the U.S. first, before being pushed out internationally, with Sony expecting it to "evolve rapidly over the coming months.”

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is currently scheduled to release on Nov. 15 in North America and Nov. 29, 2013 in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
