Bungie, creator of the hugely popular Halo franchise had a rough start with their new game Destiny. Destiny was made to be a game changer for console shooters, merging MMORPG elements to a first person shooter. And now it looks like Destiny 2 will be looking to improve upon the concepts introduced in Destiny 2.
However not everything went well for Destiny. When Destiny was released, most reviewers mostly gave the game an average score at best. Reviewers criticized Destiny's lack of content, confusing story and empty world. But through a steady stream of updates and 2 big expansions, Bungie was able to turn Destiny's fortune around and make it one of the most played online shooter games today. But despite the improvements, Destiny still isn't the game Bungie promised it to be. But according to reports, Bungie seems to take the initiative to make some huge changes in Destiny 2.
Bioware lead producer Cameron Lee just announced on Twitter that he has joined Destiny developer Bungie. "Happy to say I've joined Bungie as Executive Producer of a new project. Excited to talk about it in the future" said Cameron Lee on Twitter. That unannounced is most likely Destiny 2. Activision has invested $500 million to Bungie for the development and it would be unlikely if Bungie would suddenly halt production of their otherwise successful game.
Cameron Lee previously worked as the producer of the critically acclaimed open world RPG Dragon Age: Inquisition. And since Bungie's Luke Smith is already directing Destiny 2, Cameron Lee could be broight in as the new producer for Destiny 2.
Dragon Age: Inquisition features characters that are fully customizable with tons of abilities to help in combat. The game also boasts a huge open world filled with quests and stuff to to do. We can assume then that Destiny 2 would likely have similar features to which Cameron Lee is brought in to help develop.
One of the criticisms aimed at Destiny was the lack of RPG elements and customization. With the aid of Cameron Lee, we can expect Destiny to have more RPG elements with more customization options. We can also expect Destiny 2 to have a bigger world full of content as Dragon Age: Inquistion has featured.
Destiny 2 has been compared to what Diablo 2 did for Diablo 1. Destiny could very well have little to no connection with the first Destiny and be a vastly different game that improved the concepts introduced in the first game. Destiny 2 is scheduled for relase in 2017. Stay tuned for more updates.
