Xbox One VS PS4: Specs, Tech, Price - Consoles Are 'Almost Identical' Says Resident Evil Creator

'No Real Difference Between' the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One According to RE Creator Shinji Mikami

Regardless of how far the Resident Evil franchise may have fallen since Resident Evil 6 arrived, as the creator of the brand, Shinji Mikami's name still carries a lot of weight, especially with all the excitement over his collaboration with Bethesda that seems poised to reclaim the "horror" title, The Evil Within. So when he makes a declaration, people tend to listen, especially when it's a whopper like declaring that there's essentially no difference between Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One.

That's what Mikami said in this month's issue of Edge Magazine.

"There's no real difference between them," when referring to the next-gen wave of consoles, and adjusting his upcoming game for either. "We only need one console. Why do I have to make two versions of a game? And when Xbox One was first announced it had lower specs than PS4, but now they're almost identical. So either will do."

Granted, he's referring to development, and not specifically the hardware, but after being in the industry for over 20 years, I'm sure he's learned a thing or two.

While no other third party developer has echoed Mikami's sentiments of late, I presume he's not the only one to feel this way.

The Evil Within is currently set for a 2014 release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One and PC.

Looking over to consoles, Microsoft's Xbox One launches on Nov. 22, and will be available in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and the United States for $499.

The new console claims an 8-core x86 processor and Microsoft hopes it will take the place of the family room cable box by letting you watch Blu-ray movies and TV through the console, in a "seamless transition" that lets players switch from playing games to watching shows and/or movies. It will come fully loaded with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

cross-country tour where Microsoft is demoing the system at various locations is already underway, and demo kiosks have begun arriving at certain retailers.

As for Sony, the PlayStation 4 boasts Supercharged PC architecture, X86 CPU, Enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB Unified Memory under the hood. It will support the same PlayStation Plus service as the Vita and PlayStation 3. However, a Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer games, but not for additional media services like Netflix. Sony has also updated the Dual Shock controllers with a touch screen and improved shoulder triggers, and bundles the console with a headset.

Demo kiosks have already started making their way to various retailers, with more and more rolling out the closer we get to the console's launch date.

The PlayStation 4 is set to release on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe. Day one games available for the system include Assassin's Creed IV: Black FlagBattlefield 4Call of Duty: GhostsKillzone Shadow Fall,Madden NFL 25MinecraftNBA 2K14Need for Speed: Rivals, and more. It will retail for $399.
