Japan's highest grossing film, "Princess Mononoke," is hitting the big screen again in celebration of its 20th anniversary. The Hayao Miyazaki masterpiece is set to come out in a two-day screening.
The original Japanese version with the English subtitle is slotted to screen on January 5, which is Miyazaki's birthday. It will be followed by the English dubbed version on January 9. The film is going to feature the voices Billy Bob Thornton, Claire Danes, Minnie Driver, Gillian Anderson and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Fanthom Events and GKIDS are hosting the coming back of Studio Ghibli's epic film, "Princess Mononoke" in selected theaters across the United States. Dailydot reports that "On Your Mark," an animated music video produced by Miyazaki will also be released as a special bonus. The 7-minute video was never released in North America.
According to the president of GKIDS, Eric Beckman, "Princess Mononoke'" continues to be an "undisputed animated triumph" Studio Ghibli has ever produced. The organizers are excited to present "Princess Mononoke" in a "theatrical setting" following the success of the screening of "Spirited Away'' on December 4 and 5. The return of the Studio Ghibli's iconic films is also a fitting way to celebrate Miyazaki's birthday.
The story OF "Princess Monoke" follows a young Ashitaka who was inflicted with a deadly curse by defending his village. The boy heads to the forest in search of a cure where he meets San, a human girl raised by wolves. San will do everything to stop any human including Ashitaka from destroying her home, the forest, where forest spirits and gods of nature also live.
It is only by the boy's affection to her that made her slowly acknowledge her human side. Although San became fond of Ashitaka, she decided to live her life still apart from the humans. Tickets for the "Princess Mononoke" screening is now available online at the Fathom Events website.
