John Boyega has become one of the breakthrough stars of the past year due to his lead role in last December's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." With upcoming major appearances in "Star Wars 8" and "Pacific Rim 2," Boyega's name may soon become inescapable. But rumor has it, the British star is considering leaving his biggest role to date to concentrate on "Pacific Rim 2."
Officially titled "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" as confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter, "Pacific Rim 2" is currently in production. There is a lot of pressure on the shoulders of the "Pacific Rim 2" executive producers and writers as the first movie in the potential franchise was not exactly a big hit. Because of this, Boyega is said to be pressured as well to make "Pacific Rim 2" a big hit. Because of this commitment, the actor may have to leave "Star Wars 8" and work full time on the futuristic steampunk movie.
In other "Pacific Rim 2" news, according to Cinema Blend, Nick Tarabay of "Spartacus" has been cast on a major role. Legend Entertainment has not said much about his character yet, however, so it is still unknown who he will play and what the character's relationships with the other actors are.
You can watch "Pacific Rim 2" when it is released in North American theaters on Friday, February 23, 2018 while "Star Wars 8" will be seen for the first time on Friday, December 15, 2017. Should there be any more news and spoilers on "Star Wars 8," GameNGuide will be posting more about it in the next few months.
