"Sherlock" Season 4 is set to return next month, and BBC just released a new teaser trailer. The preview clip shows the detective Sherlock Holmes and his partner, Dr. John Watson (Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, respectively) in what looks like their apartment being flooded with water.
It has long been reported that "Sherlock" Season 4 will be the darkest season of the show yet. The installment is also set to dig through the past of Watson's wife, Mary (Amanda Abbington). It is also rumored that Moriarty (Andrew Scott) will be returning to the show in some capacity to challenge the titular detective.
The premiere episode of "Sherlock" Season 4 would be titled "The Six Thatchers." Holmes would then be puzzled as to why the images of the late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher are being destroyed. While finding out the mystery behind the act, Sherlock wonders if a lone villain is behind all this or if there is a much darker and grander scheme.
Per usual, "Sherlock" Season 4 will be comprised of three feature-length episodes. "Sherlock" Season 4 would also be introducing Culverton Smith (Toby Jones), a much darker villain than the previous ones. He is described as having a rotten soul, portrayed through his rotting teeth.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventures of the Dying Detective" is the main basis for Culverton Smith's character in "Sherlock" Season 4. However, it is still undisclosed if Smith's character will be followed bby the dot in the show.
Lastly, "Sherlock" Season 4 will see the challenges of parenthood for the Watson family. As the newlywed decides to start a family, "Sherlock" Season 4 will open with Mary being pregnant. Ultimately, the baby would be born, with Sherlock's qualms, and will be put into danger.
"Sherlock" Season 4 will be released on January 1, 2017. This would then be a three-year hiatus from "Sherlock" Season 3, excluding the special episode released earlier this year. Fans need to relish every episode though, as rumors have it that this could be the final season of the show.
