Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was probably one of the most important titles back during this year’s E3 (despite running into a bit of technical glitch when the game froze in the middle of a gameplay walkthrough). However, on an overall, the game does look quite breathtaking and now the company has revealed a fresh new trailer that focuses on the in-game next generation features that will be offered.
In a newly released trailer for the game, seen below, Ubisoft went ahead to explain why the next-gen versions of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will look better. The video showcases a number of in-game features and environments that will utilize the power of the next console generation.
To begin with, as shown in the video, the sea looks quite realistic and clearly shows how well the likes of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will do in the future. The next generation will manage to capture the new physics engine and complex shaders involved with the sea easily, offering dynamism and realism like never before. Since the sea forms such a major part of the game, it’s only natural that the developers will try making it as real as possible.
But the ocean isn’t the final frontier for Ubisoft. The video also highlights the amount of work done with the in-game plant life and surrounding vegetation on all the Caribbean islands. It seems like the plant life is affected by the changes in weather and the lighting effects.
Now, whenever the player moves on the ground while creeping up on enemies, whether it's the leaves on the tree or the grass on the ground, will also move accordingly if the player brushes against them. Interestingly, every in-game material in Black Flag also has their own light reflection mechanics.
Furthermore, the weather will keep changing as the game progresses, alongside all the realistic features involved with it. For example, whenever it’s raining, if you look carefully, you can see just how well every raindrop makes use of the in-game lighting, light passing through each tiny drop.
Puddles on the ground will even react to the drops of rain falling on them, and create real life ripples on the surface of the accumulated water, alongside the wayward wind that will keep changing the direction of the falling rain. As the trailer explains, the in-game fog has been based on more accurate environmental elements.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is currently scheduled to release this October for Xbox 360, PC, Wii U and PS3, with versions for PS4 and Xbox One arriving later. Check out the trailer below for more details
