"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will not begin with the opening crawl. Lucas Film president Kathleen Kennedy revealed during an interview in June that "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" may not have an opening crawl like all original "Star Wars" movies. Then again in another interview, She said that the movie most likely would not have a crawl, but it was still unconfirmed. Now, after the completion of post-production, director Gareth Edwards has confirmed that there will be no opening crawl in "Rogue One". Fans are now wondering what is going to happen in the opening scene.
"Star Wars" fans have already pre-booked the tickets for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". Though the film will have all the typical "Star Wars" action, it will be different from other films of the franchise, as per C-Net. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will have a female lead and a diverse cast. The movie will have a standalone story and there may not be any sequel of it. To top it all, the film might not have the "Star War" signature Crawl in the opening scene.
The Director confirmed that there will be no opening crawl but there is something else to replace it. Edwards confirmed that there will be a prolog at the beginning of the film. "Our film comes from the text of Episode IV. If we give the text, it would be endless. We really had to differentiate Rogue One from the rest of the saga."
Interestingly, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is inspired by the first 2 paragraphs from the opening crawl for "Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope." Edwards admitted that he found the decision of omitting the opening crawl a bit frustrating initially. But the more he thought about it the more normal it became for him, he stated in the same discussion. He also said that Jedi will be included in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". However, he did not confirm whether Princess Leia will be in the film and said revealing it will ruin the suspense. Moreover, he confirmed that Luke Skywalker will not be there.
