According to them, in 2017 a new “Star Trek” series will be revealed, which will be named “Star Trek: Discovery”. In Comic-Con, the comic book convention, which takes place in San Diego, the CBS staff has announced the name of the new series, there it was also announced that the first planned release in January 2017 has been postponed to May 2017. Lets hope that the delay in release will lead to a higher presentation than what is available at the moment.
First among the news is shared by CNET, they have announced that the captain of the new adventures which will be revealed in “Star Trek: Discovery” has already been chosen. Her name is Michelle Yeoh and she will play Captain Georgiou captain of the new expedition. The star best known for her role in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" will be the captain of the Shenzhou. Lt. Stamets and Lt. Saru are among the other known crew members. They will be played by Anthony Rapp and Doug Jones respectively.
Variety reports that the story of “Star Trek: Discovery’ will take place a decade before the era of captain Kirk, the lead in the original “Star Trek” series. It is revealed that Lt.Saru will be of alien origin, which has not yet been introduced in the “Star Trek” series. Lt. Stamets will be an astromycologist, fungus expert, and Starfleet science officer.
“Star Trek: Discovery” will launch in May 2017 on CBS All Access.
