Fitting enough that English actor Charles Dance, perhaps better known as "Game of Thrones'" own Tywin Lannister (a character that, remarkably, George Martin hasn't killed off...yet [no spoilers book readers]) has signed on to "appear" in CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The good Mr. Dance will be taking on the role of Emperor Emhyr var Emreis of Nilfgaard, even more of a Tolkien-esque name than "Lannister."
If you're not big on premium programming as of late, then perhaps you'd recognize him as Benedict from "Last Action Hero," or maybe I'm the only one with a fond memory of mid-90's kid friendly Schwarzenegger flicks that don't begin with "jingle," and end with "all the way."
Pictures of the Emperor haven't been revealed yet, so it's unknown if Dance will be lending his facial likeness to The Witcher 3, or just his voice. Either way, given the remarkable CGI trailer that debuted lately (seen below), the truly talented staff over at CD Projekt RED should have no problem recreating him.
There's little information regarding Dance's role as the Emperor, save what dedicated fans have put up over at The Witcher wiki: "Emhyr var Emreis, Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd is the current Emperor of Nilfgaard in the novels, tv series, movie and the games. He publicly is favourable to the Elder Race, in stark contrast to the Northern Monarchs."
"His rule of Nilfgaard is highly aggressive, similar to his predecessors; with large expansionist policies. This led to the two wars against the North described in the novels. Emhyr var Emreis is an intelligent and brilliant ruler. He picked his people well and crushed all plots against him. He was ruthless toward traitors and moved towards his goals with determination." Sure sounds like a Lannister, huh? Minus the incest and short of stature, but hey, nobody's perfect.
Dance's addition should certainly help gather even more attention to RED's project from those who've missed out on the franchise for the last few years, such as yours truly.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently scheduled for a 2014 release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
