The show "SpongeBob Square Pants" was created by Marine Biologist Stephen Hillenburg that started since May 1999 and it is still on going. "SpongeBob" is a successful show that it even has it's own film. A lot of people of all ages watch "SpongeBob," especially kids.
Even if the show will make everyone laugh. SpongeBob is still not recommended for preschoolers and below. Based on study from the University of VA. A group of Four year old children was group into three.
The first group is watching "SpongeBob SquarePants." The second group watch a slower-paced cartoon that is really for preschool children and lastly the Third group that didn't watch any show but was just given a paper and crayons. After 9 minutes all of the children were given a standard exercises to test working memory, attention and self-regulation.
The test includes following the rules , remembering what they have been told, delaying gratification, and problem solving. On all three groups, the children who watch "SpongeBob SquarePants" performed poorly. Based on studies, negative impact of fast pace cartoons like a cartoon character jump's on different activity quickly will have an impact on preschooler's brain to be neurotically exhaust and inability to concentrate that will lead to overloading the child's brain.
Nickelodeon the one who's airing "SpongeBob SquarePants" defended the cartoon and state that their methodology to this test is questionable. The reason is because Nickelodeon claims that the target audience of "SpongeBob SquarePants" is ages six to eleven years old but they only conduct test to the kids that are not the target audience.
With this information even if we love" SpongeBob SquarePants," still let's prevent preschooler or kids four year and below to watch fast pace cartoons like "SpongeBob SquarePants." And the point of the study is not about turning off the computer but changing channels and monitoring what kids are watching.
